PNG to AVIF Converter
Convert PNG to genuine static AVIF locally, keeping supported alpha and choosing quality with a verified native or local encoder.
When to use PNG to AVIF
Create an AVIF from PNG for a compatible application. Inspect text, edges and file size; this quality-controlled conversion is not a lossless-mode promise.
How to convert
- Choose or drop one local PNG image. Review the detected dimensions and file size.
- Choose the output quality.
- Select Convert to AVIF. Review the actual output preview, dimensions and file size, then download it.
What changes in the output?
Native AVIF encoding is used only after an actual probe verifies the returned format. Otherwise a lazy single-thread jSquash 2.1.1/libavif 1.0.1 encoder creates the AVIF bytes. Supported transparency is retained with alpha quality fixed at 100; the visible quality slider controls color compression. Output is eight-bit 4:4:4 AVIF, capped at 4 million pixels and the codec-inclusive estimated 256 MiB local budget. Native canvas PNG fallbacks are rejected rather than renamed.
EXIF orientation is applied once to the pixels. Source metadata is not copied into the new file. Browser color conversion and an sRGB canvas may change embedded profile handling; this is not an archival color-preservation tool.
Image codec licenses, notices and source availability. Only a codec required by this conversion loads; files stay in this browser.
Limits, privacy and browser support
JPG, PNG and WebP use native browser decoders and encoders where an actual local probe succeeds. Unsupported encoders produce an error; a PNG fallback is never renamed as another format. Animated PNG and WebP are rejected by these static converters. Corrupted and unsupported variants can fail even when a filename looks correct.
The local service estimates processing memory and allows one job at a time. Very large dimensions or memory requirements are rejected before decoding. The estimate is not a measurement of peak browser memory. Encoding has a 30-second deadline and output is capped at 64 MiB. The worker, bitmap and canvas are released after each job. Preview and download URLs stay valid until replacement, reset or navigation, when they are revoked.
Your selected file and converted result stay in this browser. No automatic saving, background upload or remote conversion service is used.
