Estimate adult resting energy expenditure with Mifflin–St Jeor.

How it works and limits

For adults 19–78 years, the age range in the original study. The equation uses the study’s sex-specific coefficients: 10 × kg + 6.25 × cm − 5 × years + coefficient. This is resting energy, not total daily needs or a calorie intake target. It is not suitable for children, pregnancy, illness or clinical nutrition decisions. Individual needs can differ substantially.
